Afrofuturism is a theory that challenges traditional representations of the future world, setting it in conjunction with African and black culture. It is a movement in literature, music, art, etc., featuring futuristic or science fiction themes which incorporate elements of black history and culture. Join us as we enjoy the feature film Black Panther and discuss how the movie relates to afrofuturism.

A presentation by a young beekeeper on honey bees and the science behind them.  The short interactive presentation is followed by hands-on learning stations, including:  Honey Bee Discovery Lab (featuring products of the hive, beekeeping equipment and tools, magnifying glasses, honey tasting, and question and answer time), flower seed planting, pollination station, honey bee board games, and coloring sheets.  This discovery lab is for children ages 3 years and up, and adults enjoy the lab, as well.

Create miniature fairy houses and gardens. Use small boxes, tea cups, flowers, lights and trinkets. For children grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Tickets available 30 minutes before the event begins and it’s free!

A non-profit organization that provides literary resources to underserved populations in Portland.

Creston Park every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-3 pm
Lents Park every Monday and Friday from 1-3 pm.

We’re doing a book exchange where we ask for kids books for ages 1-18 and then people can take a book home from us as well.

We’re also being sponsored by the Portland Pickles on July 23. Bring a book to the game for the Bookmobile!
