Black Panther and Afrofuturism
Multnomah County Library | Central Library
Saturday, September 8th @ 12:00 – 4:00pm
Afrofuturism is a theory that challenges traditional representations of the future world, setting it in conjunction with African and black culture. It is a movement in literature, music, art, etc., featuring futuristic or science fiction themes which incorporate elements of black history and culture. Join us as we enjoy the feature film Black Panther and discuss how the movie relates to afrofuturism.

Come join award-winning writer Donald Altman, author of more than 15 published books, to hear about the art of writing and publishing in the fields of self-help, spiritual, and personal growth. A former Buddhist monk and psychotherapist, Donald’s books integrate brain science, stories, and how-to elements.

OMSI New monthly planetarium concert series called Kendall Concerts: Music Under the Dome. Every month, musicians from all genres will perform in the planetarium with lasers, stars, and galaxies flashing across the domed screen (it’s super cool).

A jazz-inspired, story-driven pop duo, who most recently worked with the Oregon Symphony and Carnegie Hall to create the “Lullaby Project”.


The Bookmobile Babe

A non-profit organization that provides literary resources to underserved populations in Portland.

We’re doing a book exchange where we ask for kids books for ages 1-18 and then people can take a book home from us as well.
