Sock Bat Workshop
May 12, 2018 @ 2:00 – 5:30 pm
Love sock monkeys? Enjoy the age old tradition of turning socks into stuffed animal for your room. Learn helpful stitching and soft-sculpture techniques while making your own cuddly bat. Fun for both the beginner and more advanced crafters. We will use clean, up-cycled colorful cotton knit sock parts and felt made from recycled plastic bags to create these critters. Take home your own hand-stitched sock bat by the end of the workshop. Class taught by guest artist and toymaker Suzanne Moulton. Register HERE.

Stephen Hawking died this week on Pi Day in a weird coincidence
Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem , there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don’t give up.”

Stephen Hawking, world renowned physicist and author of books, including A Brief History of Time and The Theory of Everything, died in his home in Cambridge. Hawking was known for his work with black holes and relativity, and he appeared as himself on television shows including The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory.

FILMS
Are You Afraid of the Dark? gets film remake by the screenwriter of Stephen King’s It released last year. The Midnight Society will be coming to the big screen and if you check out the video I’ll have in the show notes you’ll see who freaky the clowns were in multiple episodes. I have one library in my area that has the entire set and I will be rewatching all of them very soon. October 11 2019. I think this is the same time that the second part of the new It will be released as well. I love October and I love scary films and I’m so excited. Luckily I will have Stranger Things 3 to hold me over.

Sharp Objects limited HBO series will premiere at ATX Television Festival
The second teaser trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale has been released
Making a Murderer will have a second season in 2019 and a new series Convicting a Murderer will be released showing the prosecutions side

UTAH 
Beginning in January 2018, NASA began a year-long series of monthly topics, focusing on extending human presence in the Solar System. Each month will include themed outreach materials for your programs/exhibits. Castle Dale Library has signed up to present these programs to the community!

OHIO
To help reach an underserved portion of readers, at least two central Ohio library systems have begun to implement programs and storytimes dedicated to patrons on the autism spectrum.

Barbara Smith Randall will present her book, “Willamette Valley Wineries,” a pictorial history of the Willamette Valley wine industry. The book illustrates the challenges, hardships and ultimate success of the Willamette Valley wineries. Randall shares the history through photographs and stories from winemakers and their families, as well as the resources at Linfield College’s Oregon Wine History Archives in McMinnville, Oregon. Books will be available for purchase and signing at a cost of $22.99 each. Everyone is invited / This event is free.
